What if I embarrass myself? What if I get sick? What if I sent the wrong person an email? What if I caused a car accident?
Anxiety is a natural, human response that no one is immune to experiencing. So when does anxiety turn from typical to disorder, and from adaptive into maladaptive?
On average, folks with OCD suffer 17 years before receiving correct diagnosis and effective treatment. It is vital for clinicians to become skilled at diagnosis and effective treatments such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to ensure there is no delay in recovery.
For decades, ERP has been one of the most studied and effective therapies to treat anxiety disorders and OCD. When applied well, ERP can save lives, foster resilience, and lead to recovery. Many clinicians are unsure or even fearful of learning this modality because of misunderstanding the treatment model (example: that ERP is cruel, or further traumatizing).
ERP treatment targets reducing behaviors that get in the way of the life the person wants to live, increases tolerance of distressing feelings and empowers clients through self-efficacy.
This workshop provides an in-depth view at Exposure & Response Prevention, and modern perspectives on application.
Following this training, participants will have a better ability to:
Better assess and differentiate diagnosis
Understand the principles of ERP
Identify response prevention techniques
Develop an exposure hierarchy in line with treatment protocols.
